Datsun Z

My friend Thairin over at World of Wonder just sent this over… he knows my love of the Z. I have no room for another Z, but this photo is perfection!

Babes on a Z

Last year I fulfilled my long time fantasy of owning a Datsun 280Z from the 1970’s. I’ve always been a Z fan since childhood, there is just something about the early Z body style that drives me wild. I was only mildly surprised to discover that thousands share my Z enthusiasm, and that obtaining and restoring a Z here in Southern California (where the notorious rust issue with Zs is mitigated by the sunny weather) is relatively e-Z!

So, I scoured the nets for the perfect one and found a $1500 1975 280Z 4-speed with a straight body, awful silver paint job, minimal rust, tore up interior, and most important - a good original straight-6 engine. 1975 was the first year with fuel injection, so while there are some issues with fuel delivery sometimes, I prefer dealing with the f.e. than messing with carburetors (following my experience with a beautiful 1968 Buick Electra 225, which died an early and tragic death, sad to say). I fixed the mechanics up and even did a little of the work myself. At one point I had to replace a busted fuel line in the night on the side of the road in the middle of Hollywood. Anyway it still has a ways to go in the cosmetics department, it still has no heat or AC, the seats need to be redone, and a radio would be cool. Nonetheless, it’s the coolest car I’ve ever owned.

I need some pics of my Z up here… I wonder if I can get some scantily clad hotties to crawl on it and pose, too!
