My two cents on three cent refunds…
April 30, 2007 – 6:13 pm
I am flummoxed. I thought this was some odd joke spam spoof thing until my coworker got the same notice for one of his domains at godaddy.com. I mean, how very nice of godaddy.com to inform me of this windfall and credit my account with six cents. Yeah, I’ve only got two domain names registered there, and I guess if I had 10,000 domains I might grin about receiving $300 back. Anyway, it seems to me that the work and time required by however many employees at godaddy.com to ensure that all customers are aware of their 3 cent refunds (only for domain names registered or renewed after July 1, 2006), and to ensure that all the financial ramifications of this refund are properly documented would have cost something rivaling 3 cents per domain name. Perhaps I’m wrong.
Dear John Durkin,
The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN®) recently agreed to reduce their Registrar Transaction Fee from $.25 to $.22. What does this mean for you?
Good news. You have been credited $.03/yr for each domain name you registered or renewed dating back to July 1, 2006* — $.06 has been placed into your Go Daddy® account with this customer number: XXXXXXX.
Your in-store credit will be applied to your purchases at GoDaddy.com® until it’s gone or for up to 12 months, whichever comes sooner. If you have any questions, please contact a customer service representative at 480-505-8877.
As always, thank you for being a Go Daddy customer.
Sincerely,
Bob Parsons
